Waaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
He’s for reaaaaaal! :o :o
And the performance was so (quite) perfect (walopun ada media yang bilang ‘hambar’ karena semua track yang dibawain ga pure klasik murni). Maksimnya keren (itu ga perlu disebutin lagi :lol: ), Twilite Orchestra (TO)-nya dahsyat (walo sound system Tennis Indoor Senayan (TIS) ga terlalu bagus buat ukuran pertunjukan simfoni and ada beberapa distorsi kecil, but that’s fine buat ukuran Jakarta mah…). And I still got the syndrome, call it Maksim post traumatic syndrome . He made me indulge in flights of fancy :roll: :) Btw, here also some of the pics. You may click for larger image. Btw, agak telat emang untuk posting artikel ini, berhubung PC lagi ngadat kemaren n gue lagi sibuk.
To TIS
Well, gue berangkat ke TIS jam 5. Nyampe di Senayan, sekitar jam 6an, n gue langsung transit di Masjid Al Bina buat solat maghrib. Trus, pakaian gue saat itu temanya : Black is sophisticated 8) . From top to toe, black is all over! Cuma sepatu gue aja yang warnanya khakis, en gue juga bawa jaket old school putih supaya penampilan gue ga terlalu narik perhatian massa :P . Abis sholat maghrib, gue jalan ke TIS. Pas di gerbang parkir, muncul dah tuh calo2. “Mbak, tribun tribun…”.
Wah, sebelum masuk ke venue pemeriksaannya ketat banget. Ampe tiga kali pemeriksaan gitu, termasuk passing pintu detektor. Botol minuman gue aja kena sita (gue heran kenapa kaga boleh bawa minuman gitu yah :roll: ).
Then The Show
OK, akhirnya bisa lolos pemeriksaan, dan gue masuk venue. Gue duduk di baris keempat dari depan, en kursi kelima dari middle way. Strategis. Dan gue menunggu konser dimulai sambil nyiapin digcam n HP gw. Jarak gue ke stage sekitar 5 meteran, dan di atas stage, udah berdiri piano, Yamaha C3 item. Excellent…
Pas jam 8, bermunculanlah para artists TO. Mereka check sound instrumen, sekitar 15 menitan. Nah, abis itu, panggung jadi agak gelap, en muncullah konduktor kita: Addie MS (horeeeeee :D . Plok plok plok!!! ). Bareng TO, beliau menebar senyum ke seluruh audiens. En, tanpa ba bi bu, mulai deh konser dibuka. Gue lupa repertoir pertama TO mainin apaan :cry: (Lupaaaa…)
Preman Dateng
Selese repertoir pembuka, Addie MS curtain call (ke belakang panggung maksudnya). Gw mikir, ‘ni orang mau ngapain yah?’
Sekitar 5 menitan.
‘Lama banget… Ni orang ngapain yah? Kebawa ngobrol gitu sama si Maksim?!’
Dan, pas Addie MS akhirnya muncul lagi ke panggung, maka muncul juga seseorang. Cieee, ‘preman’ kita dateng…. Pake T-shirt item, jeans gelap belel yang dah ga jelas warnanya + gesper 'paku payung'. Make decker di kedua pergelangan tangan, en kalung2 yang ga jelas juga. Ga lupa anting di kuping kiri. Itulah dia, Maksim Mrvica. Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah :D :D :P :lol: . He flared up!
‘Preman terminal mana yak? Posmo banget... Ni orang beda banget seh sama Addie MS cs, mereka tuxedo gitu loch! ’
Langsung deh Maksim memberi lirikan maut n menebar senyum penuh pesona 8) . Dan, penonton langsung histeris, tepuk tangan en teriak2 ga karuan :lol: :roll:
Big hands reverberated as soon as he stepped forward on stage.

The Modern Classics
 Bareng TO, pertama yang dia bawain ialah Bohemian Rhapsody-nya Queen.
Ngedenger intronya aja gwe dah merinding…
Wow, pokoke keren, Maksim ama TO duet maut emang! Dan repertoir tersebut selesai dengan indah.
Wuhuuuuu!
Sekarang giliran Maksim yang turun pangggung. Giliran TO mainin Russlan & Ludmilla Overture-nya Glinka.
 Abis itu selese, Maksim muncul lagi, en penonton histeris lagi. Mainin Piano Concerto No 2-nya Rachmaninoff, boleh juga.
Nyusul, Orpheus in The Underworld-nya Offenbach. Nyusul lagi sebuah repertoir yang awalnya agak2 asing buat gue, tapi ternyata ujung2nya jadiAll By Myself nya Celine Dion. Jadi mo ketawa karena inget gimana linglungnya gue saat itu berusaha mengenali nih lagu :roll: n gimana suksesnya Maksim&TO memperdaya penonton :lol: . En seremonial yang begitu klasik en eksklusif kelar sampe di situ. Salut buat TO…
 Maksim & TO turun panggung. Keseringan dia turun panggung cukup bikin penonton kecewa n gerutu2 gitu. “Kok lari mulu…”, gue sempet denger ada yang bilang gitu :P . N ga lama kemudian Maksim muncul lagi, kali ini dia basa basi dikit sama penonton. Kurang lebih dia bilang, “Eh penonton, ini adalah tur terakhir gue di Asia. Taon kemaren gue juga manggung di sini. Sekarang gue bakal mainin tracks2 dari album terbaru gue. Dan pertama2 gue akan mainin Kolibre… Selamat menikmati”
OK, coming crossover. Mulailah, TIS dia sulap jadi seolah tempat dugem karena musik Kolibre yang temponya cepet n bikin semangat juga. Walau cuma diselingin musik tambahan, tapi ketika ngeliat di layar gimana tangan2 dia akrobat di atas paino, fuuuuh… ga usah kecewa ngeliat dia sendirian tanpa ditemenin TO. Justru pas dia sendiri gitu, status dia sebagai virtuoso (soloist maksudnya) makin diakuin publik. Cieh… Semenjak gue kenal Maksim (sotoy :lol: ), gue ga jarang nganggep dia sebagai ‘The Next Liszt’ kali ya (btw, Franz Liszt-pianis pertengahan abad 19-itu modelnya kaya Maksim. Maestro muda. Flamboyan. Cakep bin rupawan (katanya), ramah, fansnya histerik, en komposisi2 pianonya cerdas karena bener2 nunjukin kecepatan jari n teknik yang canggih :) Denger aja Hungarian Rhapsody ato Liebestraum yang gue pake buat background sound blog ini :) ). But Maksim is Maksim! Maksim rocks!
 Berikutnya nyusul Merry X Mas Mr. Lawrence. Trus, Totentanz. Nih repertoir karya Liszt rada berbau gothic… Karena dibikin crossover, jadi pas ada bridge gitar listrik, penonton sekonyong2 ngasih tepuk tangan n jerit2 histeris. Gitar listrik ‘nyelonong’ gitu loh… Wah :D :D Trus, pencahayaan panggung juga jadi kaya diskotik gitu, yang kadang gelap kadang terang banget. Semangat dah… Mana si Maksim maennya emosian banget, sampe2 piano berguncang2 mo roboh :shock: . He lost his charm and blew his stack! Salut… Salut… :o
Abis itu dia curtain, dan lucunya, dia ngasih ‘kiss bye’ gitu ke penonton… Aduh, apa maksudnya coba… :roll: . Hari gini masih ada kiss bye yak? Selama dia turun panggung, layar panggung nampilin video concert dia yang di Roundhouse, London, yang pas track Flight of Bumblebee . Gw jadi nostalgis, ngebayangin pasti konser yang taon lalu seru banget kali yah, (hiks…hiks…gue ga ikut yang konser pertama :cry: )
Dan selese klip, Maksim muncul lagi. Penonton girang… Dia maenin Flight of Bumblebee, kontan ngundang tepuk tangan karena intro yang mudah dikenali.
Selese tuh lagu, dia bediri, ngasih bow ke penonton. Beberapa kali ngebungkuk gitu. Aduh, repotnya… santun benar orang ini… Spontan penonton juga pada standing ovation, kagum sama nih orang.
Nah, setelah itu Maksim turun panggung. Penonton kembali tertib nunggu performance berikutnya. Tapi, kok lama banget sih… Padahal panggung masih gelap …Maksimnya ga muncul2…
‘Nah lo… Jangan2 konsernya dah abis…’
Venue perlahan langsung terang. Tapi di panggung kaga ada sapa2.
Akhirnya, ketauan nih konser abis di sini. And Maksim left the audience till all blue. Penonton jadi agak2 ribut, ga terima kalo konser selese dengan… well... cukup garing.
‘God, sumpe lu… Konser selese?!?! Trus, Bumblebee tadi itu ceritanya encore-nya?!?! Mana Amazonic?!?!’
Eh bener, ternyata konser dah selese. And that’s flat!
Iya, gitu deh, Bumblebee ternyata jadi encore (bonus performance maksudnya). Padahal gue nungguin Amazonic, Leeloos Tunes, Nocturne, Olympic Dream… Trus kalo bisa Croatian Rhapsody, (hehehe, maunya :lol: ) . Aaaaaaargh!
Ikhlas dah… Ikhlas :roll: . Satu setengah jam terasa cepet banget
Mungkin karena tema konsernya Modern Classics The Tour kali yah, bukan Variations The Tour, jadi ga semua track di Variations dimainin…
Black Is Sophisticated
Bicara tentang general etiquette for orchestra yang sempet gue tulis, ternyata itu semua jadi rubbish kemaren, hihihi :wink: . Padahal gue udah siap2 diri untuk itu. Karena, gue berkaca pada pertunjukan Maksim yang di Roundhouse, penonton begtu khidmat dan well-mannered. Buktinya, masih aja ada penonton yang berani nyelonong boy ke row depan untuk izin ke tolet (mungkin) dan itu ga tedeng aling2 apakah lagi pertunjukan atau jeda pertunjukan.
Trus, blitz kamera penonton yang ga kira2… Termasuk gue juga 2/3 kali keceplosan pake blitz, karena lupa non-aktifin. Maap banget yah buat yang ngerasa keganggu.
Berikutnya juga applause yang ga ‘pandang bulu’. Belom tuntas bener performance, penonton dah keburu tepuk tangan. Wajar… Namanya juga penonton ga semuanya dari pemerhati n penggemar musik klasik sejati. And, biasa, banyak yang kecele tepuk tangan pas movement (sub bagian dari simfoni). Gue juga sempet sih, heheheh… :lol: (gue juga sempet sneaking makan permen, padahal kata JAVA pas awal pertunjukan, ga boleh makan minum. Who cares!!! )
Well, banyak juga hal2 yang lucu selama konser. Yang paling gue inget ialah tingkah laku seorang penonton (cewek, biasa) yang teriak “Maksim I love you!!!” gitu pas Maksim lagi ambil ancang2 mau main piano. Nah, Maks cuma bisa cengar cengir ke arah penonton ajah. Nekad banget dah tuh cewe… :lol:
Trus, ada lagi yang lucu. Ada ‘sebentuk’ kain, saputangan item (item lagi item lagi :roll: ), yang ditaro di atas piano. Dan setiap kali Maksim ‘nganggur’ main piano ato mulai/selese main, dia sering ngelap muka&tangannya pake tuh benda. Cuek… Huehehehe, gue rada terpingkal juga saat itu :lol: :lol: . Perasaan pas di vidio konser Roundhouse, dia kaga pernah ngelap muka sedikitpun dah… Maklum, entah Jakarta panas atau konsernya yang beda kelas… Mana dia juga sempet nenggak air mineral di atas panggung lagi. Yah, teserah maestro lah... :roll:
Yang bikin gw bete juga ada. Digcam abis batere pas sekitar 15 menit terakhir pertunjukan :shock: . Padahal di situ banyak momen2 bagus buat dijepret. Bisa sih pake HP, Cuma kan hasilnya ga sebagus digcam. Trus, sulit banget ngambil gambar Maksim close pake zoom. Soalnya tuh orang begerak2 mulu, yang ada malah hasilnya jadi blur… Dan kebanyakan pic2 rada blur karena kamera zoom ekstra besar, sementara objek di panggung lagi gerak2.

Then there was also unforgettable thing. To me! Pas selese Bohemian Rhapsody, penonton tepuk tangan dan venue jadi terang benderang. Maks merhatiin audiens sekitar, terutama yang di depan2. Nah, ketika gue tepuk tangan, dan ketika dia merhatiin row gue, dia tuh… yang ngeliatin gue :shock: (ato gue yang keGR an?!?! Huehehe :lol: ) Satu detik… Dua detik… Tiga detik...(pake stopwatch?! :lol: ). God, he laid eyes on me!
‘Siapa dia? Nonton konser gue? Sumpe lu?…’ dia mikir gitu kali yah.
‘What are you looking at?!?! So what gitu loh?! Ada masalah?!’
Gue ga ngerti, bizarre. That’s etched in my mind… Apa karena penampilan gue yang…mmm… unfamiliar to him(btw, I was black all over, termasuk jilbab gue 8) ). I truly know that I was in ‘the wrong place&time at the moment’. Pas gw ceritain ini ke temen2, mereka pada ngakak :roll: .
 Dan keliatan sih Maksim itu emang seorang nasrani yang taat ( I think so, karena punya tatto salib gede di leher belakang bo! Mana pas konfrensi press dia pake singlet item gambar salib, depan belakang! ). Entah… :roll: .
Mungkin ga biasa kali ya ngeliat muslimah berjilbab… Mana serba item :lol: . Btw, if you ask me, I’d answer “Well, I just have the same opinion with your quote: Black is sophisticated” :P :P .
Dan selama perjalanan pulang dari Senayan, gue cuma bisa bengong, masih terkesima sama konser barusan. :oops: …
(Btw, buat mom n dad, makasiiiiii bangeeeeeet atas tiketnya n inisiatif mau nganter n jemput :D )

well, here we go again, another things to know about musical symphonies
1. Concerto- (Italy) concert,concerted performance.A work in which a solo intru(s) is contrasted and blended with the orch
2. Etude-(French) study .comp. intended as a basis for the improvement of the performer’s technique.this term is especially applied to a short piece restricted to the exploitation of one kind of passage. Masterpieces of this kind suitable for public performance. As well as private practice were written by Chopin and Debussy.
3. Invention-name given by J.S Bach to 15 of his shorter comps. In 2 parts or ‘voices’,including in his Klavierbuchlein,1720.they are highly contrapuntal,being largely in the nature of imitation.each works out some short melodic motif.
5. Repertoire (pronounced as rep er twor)-This rather big word means the list of pieces you have practiced and have ready to perform.Concert pianist have large repertoires (just a dozen of pieces).you should always have at least 6 pieces in your repertoire .this means to have 6 pieces ready to play at all times(by heart if possible, like Maksim).
6. Sarabande-(Spain zarabanda).Dance form in the 17th and 18 th cents.originated in Lat America ,appearing in Spain in early 16th cent.was banned by Philpip II in 1583 because it was regarded as loose and ugly,’exciting bad emotions’. Introduced to France and England in early 17th cent,where a stately version,in slow triple time,was preferred to the lively Spain Original.
7. Variation-piece of music which is a varied version of a well known tune or of an orig. theme especially comp. as basis for variation.some yariations follow the orig. tune closely, others make the briefest reference of it ,sometimes harmonically rather than thematically.eg. Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini.
Interesting Facts of Maksim Mrvica...
During the war in Croatia in year 1990, Maksim who was just 15 practiced on the piano for SEVEN HOURS a day, under care of his maestro in the basement of his music conservatory. [Amazing isn't it? and we wonder how he got those magical fingers... ]
He won a MAJOR piano competition when he was 18 [All that training sure paid off]
The correct way to pronounce "Mrvica" is "Máravitsa" with a rolled "r" [Hey, if you're a bloody die hard fan of him you gotta at least pronounce his last name properly]
His album became one of the fastest-selling classical recordings in Croatia [It's no surprise really]
Maksim won four Porin(Croation Grammies)
Maksim was invited to open the Porin award ceremony!![see, this rarely happens to classical artists]
Maksim started taking piano lessons when he was 9 and at the same age, he gave a public performance! [How cool is that?! He just started his lessons and is already a genius :wink: !]
Maksim performed Haydn's C Major piano concerto with an orchestra just THREE YEARS after he started his piano lessons! [Can u believe it!? Performing with an orchestra when he was just TWELVE :shock: !]
After five years at the Music Academy in Zagreb studying with Professor Vladimir Krpan (a pupil of Arturo Benedetto Michelangeli), Maksim spent a year at the Ferenc Liszt Conservatoire in Budapest. During this period (1999) he won first prize in the Nicolai Rubinstein International Piano Competition. [Cool eh? he soo rocks!]
In year 2000, Maksim moved to Paris to study with Igor Lazko [Ooh... Paris...]
In year 2001, he won first place in the Pontoise Piano Competition that was held in the French capital. [He won a LOT of competitions! Woohoo..]
Maksim wanted to get people under 30 to have interest in classical music, and as you know, it worked! He did it! [Go Maksim!!!]
He went back to Croatia he found himself in the middle of intense media interest. There were frequent television appearances and interviews, and soon he was recording his Gestures CD.
He made a nice approach at the spectacular launch recital in the 2000-seat Lisinski Hall in Zagreb and HALF the audience were people aged UNDER 30 :o . [He was very happy about that!]
Soon after, he was spotted by author, poet and musician, Tonci Huljic (he composed a few songs for Bond) and he introduced Maksim to Mel Bush. Once they met, Mel Bush immediately recognised Maksim's great potential to appeal classical, crossover to pop audiences.
His favourite pianos are his Yamaha, Steinway and Fazioli. According to a local magazine, he'll never travel without these three pianos because he wants to make sure that all his concerts go smoothly and perfectly.[WOW! Travelling around with THREE pianos :shock: ! Cool! Whoa, and I respect him for wanting the concerts to be perfect :o ]
Maksim can stretch his fingers between 11 keys on the piano, from the middle C to F [do you know how far that is?! I mean i can stretch my fingers from my thumb to pinky for just like what? 8 keys? :shock: ] His hands each spans NINE INCHES from tip of the thumb to pinky![How cool is that?]
According to Maksim, Fazioli is the best piano in the world...and the Steinway is the 2nd best piano in the world. He likes his Fazioli best.
He has two elder brothers and both of them are sailors. [cool huh? He mentioned this in an interview in Hong Kong..]
Maksim HATES soup!! So do I, I am seldom to eat vegetables :roll: Ahaha... he says it's too healthy!!
Maksim isn't a morning person. He says that he doesn't function properly till 2 in the afternoon.
Here's another Maksim family fact. His dad is an engineer and his mom is a sale's assistant. [he mentioned this in the Hong Kong interview as well...]
When Maksim first read "The Lord Of The Rings" years ago by J.R.R. Tolkien, the fine piece of work immediately became his favourite book. He hoped they'd make a movie out of the book someday... and as you know, Peter Jackson made a movie out of the books. Bravo LOTR!!!
Maksim thinks that Zouk is the most outraging club in South-East Asia 8) !!
